LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Adam Sandler's monster mash-up "Hotel Transylvania" has brought the weekend box office back to life after a late-summer slump.
The animated comedy from Sony Pictures debuted at No. 1 with $43 million, one of the strongest starts ever for a movie opening in September, according to studio estimates Sunday.
"Hotel Transylvania" set a new high for September debuts in terms of actual dollars, beating the previous record of $35.7 million for 2002's "Sweet Home Alabama." But factoring in today's higher admission prices, "Sweet Home Alabama" sold more tickets.
This weekend's box office was further strengthened by a solid No. 2 debut for another Sony release, Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's time-travel thriller "Looper," which took in $21.2 million.
Hollywood's overall grosses rose for the first time in a month compared to the same weekend last year. Revenues totaled $120 million, up 21 percent from the same weekend a year ago, when "Dolphin Tale" led with $13.9 million, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com.
"Sony really kind of saved the day here, turning things around after a full month of less-than-stellar box office," said Hollywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian. "The post-summer period didn't exactly set the world on fire."
It's rare for one studio to open two wide releases over the same weekend, but Sony had two movies that complemented each other well without overlapping their audiences.
Locking up the family crowds, the PG-rated "Hotel Transylvania" features Sandler providing the voice of Count Dracula as proprietor of a resort catering to Frankenstein, the Wolfman and other monsters.
The R-rated "Looper" pulled in male action fans. Set in 2044, the film stars Gordon-Levitt as a hit man assigned to kill victims sent back in time ? including his future self (Bruce Willis).
The previous weekend's No. 1 movie, Open Road Films' police story "End of Watch," fell to No. 3 with $8 million, raising its domestic total to $26.2 million.
In narrower release, Universal Pictures' music tale "Pitch Perfect" opened strongly at No. 6 with $5.2 million. The movie stars Anna Kendrick as a college freshman who joins an a cappella singing team and livens up the group's conservative style.
Playing in 335 theaters, "Pitch Perfect" averaged an impressive $15,560 a cinema. That compared to an average of $12,840 in 3,349 theaters for "Hotel Transylvania" and $7,086 in 2,992 cinemas for "Looper."
The weekend's other new wide release, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis' school drama "Won't Back Down," flopped at No. 10 with $2.7 million, averaging just $1,074 in 2,515 theaters. The movie centers on two mothers who organize a campaign to save a failing elementary school.
For Sandler, "Hotel "Transylvania" was a return to hit status after his summer dud "That's My Boy" and so-so results on last year's comedy "Jack and Jill."
Sandler's audience of young males generally has waned as he ages. But Sony, which has released most of his movies, remains eager to stay in the Sandler business.
"I have said that many times, and it still holds in a big way," said Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
1. "Hotel Transylvania," $43 million ($8.1 million international).
2. "Looper," $21.2 million ($8.5 million international).
3. "End of Watch," $8 million.
4. "Trouble with the Curve," $7.5 million.
5. "House at the End of the Street," $7.2 million ($1.5 million international).
6. "Pitch Perfect," $5.2 million.
7. "Finding Nemo," $4.1 million ($1.1 million international).
8. "Resident Evil: Retribution," $3 million ($20.7 million international).
9. "The Master," $2.75 million.
10. "Won't Back Down," $2.7 million.
___
Estimated weekend ticket sales at international theaters (excluding the U.S. and Canada) for films distributed overseas by Hollywood studios, according to Rentrak:
1. "Resident Evil: Retribution," $20.7 million.
2. "Ted," $9.1 million.
3 (tie). "Masquerade," $9 million.
3 (tie). "Les Seigneurs," $9 million.
5. "Ice Age: Continental Drift," $8.7 million.
6. "Looper," $8.5 million.
7. "Hotel Transylvania," $8.1 million.
8. "The Bourne Legacy," $7.7 million.
9. "Taken 2," $6.4 million.
10. "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted," $6.1 million.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) ? Thousands of Poles blew horns, prayed and waved flags in downtown Warsaw on Saturday to show their anger over a new law that raises the retirement age and a host of other issues.
The protest was organized by the conservative and nationalistic opposition party Law and Justice, led by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, as well as the Solidarity trade union and other groups.
Dubbed "Wake Up, Poland," the protest is an expression of the deep anxieties gripping many Poles as the government tries to lower state debt by embracing pro-market reforms that are weakening the social safety net.
Many of the protesters are also conservative Catholics ill at ease in a country that is quickly growing more secular as it grows wealthier and more integrated with the West.
A key source of anger for the protesters is a new law put through by the pro-market government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk which will gradually raise the retirement age to 67 for all Poles from 60 for women and 65 for men.
Participants also expressed anger at a decision by the Polish national broadcasting council to strip a Catholic TV station, TV Trwam, of a free digital TV signal. They argue that it marks a blow to freedom of expression and an attempt to silence their conservative and Catholic world view. The broadcasting council, however, has said the station lost its transmission rights because of a lack of transparency in its funding.
Protesters sang patriotic and religious songs as they gathered at Three Crosses Square in downtown Warsaw, some of them holding rosaries.
"Our presence here is a sign of opposition to the discrimination against Catholic media and TV Trwam," Zbigniew Ziobro, a leading conservative politician, told protesters, according to the news agency PAP.
Police had no estimate yet for the number of protesters, but private broadcaster TVN24 said tens of thousands turned out.

Circuits like this one could be useful in implantable medical devices.
Fiorenzo Omenetto/Tufts
If these medical implants dissolve in the body, they could eliminate the need for surgery to retrieve them.
Fiorenzo Omenetto/Tufts
The circuits are made of silicon, magnesium and a special kind of silk, all of which can be designed to dissolve after a fixed period of time.
The Beckman Institute, University of Illinois
Most engineers build things to last.
But a group of mechanical and electrical engineers are working on electronics that will break down in as little as a couple of days. On purpose!
The electronic circuits they're developing don't crash. It's more dramatic than that. They dissolve in liquid.
Sounds a little bit crazy, but circuits that work for a while then disappear could be pretty useful in medical devices implanted in the human body.
In a paper published in the journal Science, the engineers describe how they used silicon, magnesium and a special type of reconstituted silk to create a microchip that can last for as long as needed, then fade away when its job is done.
?"It will have a finite lifetime while in a wet environment," says Fiorenzo Omenetto, an electrical engineer at Tufts University who co-authored the article.
Right now, some medical implants have to be surgically removed when they've overstayed their welcome inside the body. But if these devices could instead dissolve and get flushed out through the body's natural processes, surgery could be avoided.
That's one of the potential benefits for dissolvable electronics, but definitely not the only one.
Omenetto says they says might also be used to create more environmentally friendly consumer devices, like iPhones or televisions. "Electronic waste is not a pretty waste," Omenetto tells Shots. "Anything that could be done to use more benign materials [in electronics] could help."
At this point, you might be wondering how these electronic devices could possibly function while submerged liquid and not experience catastrophic short circuiting.
It all boils down to silk.
Omenetto and his colleague at Tufts, David Kaplan, have been experimenting with silk for years and have used it to develop a biodegradable plastic-like material. The silk-based material can be programmed to dissolve over a predetermined time period ? six hours, six days, six months, you name it.
Omenetto teamed up with mechanical engineer John Rogers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to design a magnesium and silicon circuit encased in this silk-based material. "The silk is water-soluble, but its dissolution rate can be controlled," Rogers says. "We used that as a protecting layer to go on top of our water-soluble electronics."
Once the electronics no longer need to be protected, the silk starts dissolving and then the circuit goes along with it. "Everything dissolves," Rogers says.
Don't expect to see dissolvable electronics in the doctor's office anytime soon. Omenetto estimates it could be a decade before they're in widespread use. Not only would these devices need to be tested and pass muster with the Food and Drug Administration, but Omenetto says someone would also need to figure out how to mass produce these circuits in a factory.
"People can make very nice electronic gadgets in a lab," he says, "but that's a long way from Intel."
Today's Science article has people in the engineering world buzzing. "This is a small but growing field for sure," says Christopher Bettinger, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University. The key to taking this technology out of the lab and into the marketplace will be "identifying an application first ? a disease or a treatment that can benefit from this," he says. "There are definitely applications that could benefit from this."

Lil Wayne is right above it, all right. The rap superstar has topped the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Mr. Elvis Presley himself, for charting the most Billboard Hot 100 hits for a solo artist.
Now that should put a smile on his face.
Lil Wayne taking a break from rapping
Per Billboard, the 30-year-old Wayne's latest entry is the Game's single, "Celebration," in which he's a featured artist along with Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown and Tyga, which entered the chart at No. 82. With that milestone, "Tha Black Is Hot" MC now has 109 Hot 100 songs under his belt, surpassing Presley's mark of 108 that began with the chart's inception in 1958.
Out of those ditties, however, it's worth noting that Lil Wayne has only been the lead artist on 42 tracks with the remainder coming in featured appearances, while to Elvis' enduring credit, the "Jailhouse" rocker was the lead on every one of his 108 tunes that charted.

Also, several of the latter's classic gems, including "Heartbreak Hotel," "Hound Dog," "Love Me Tender" and "All Shook Up" among others, topped the Billboard pop chart in the mid-'50s before the magazine hatched the Hot 100 in 1958, an all-in-one singles popularity standard that factored in radio airplay, retail sales and eventually digital sales and streaming activity.
Nicki Minaj backing Mitt Romney in Lil Wayne track?
The last Presley tune to crack the Hot 100 was "Rubberneckin," used in a Paul Oakenfold remix that came in at No. 94 in 2003.
Lil Wayne has just one hit to reach No. 1 in which he's the lead artist -- "Lollipop," though that fact doesn't take away from his musical achievement.
Congrats, Weezy!

On my fitness journey, I started attending TurboKick class after meeting a black fitness instructor in the sauna. Her name was Brittani Rettig. We just hit it off and I ended up making it to her class. Ironically, I hate fitness classes because I am bored? 15 minutes in and the music sucks.? Her class was awesome and her energy radiated to the entire class! .? Through emails and hanging out at the gym, we became good ?gym? friends and now she is part of the fit friends crew. Ironically, we found out that we are distant cousins! How cool is that?!!!

?
Long story short, I?m a fan of ?plans.? ?It started in high school when I discovered Slim Fast and dropped 15 pounds.? I gained that back in one summer.? During college, I was captain of my women?s basketball team which kept the pounds under control.? But when I entered the working world, I packed on plenty of extra ?cushioning.?? ?I tried Weight Watchers for about a month, but always skipped meetings and under counted my ?points.?
Then there was the Atkins Diet, South Beach Diet, Lipodrene diet pills and the cayenne pepper/lemon juice cleanse (Beyonc? put me on to this one).? I?d lose 5-10 pounds with each program only to gain it back in a few months.? I had officially reached a point where I was failing at every weight loss system.? I was a 5?8? 25-year-old who weighed 179 pounds and felt ?less than stellar.?? I had to get it together.? I REFUSED to let another day of my 20?s go by without rockin? short shorts, high heels and lots of swag!?? This is when I accepted my weight control Slip up #1: I tried to be perfect.?
?
Fall break vacation 2009 ? weighing over 175 pounds
I have a super Type A (slightly neurotic) personality and get really pumped up about new a diet plan or workout regimen.? But if I slip up even once, I beat myself up and eventually quit.?? Being mean to myself does not help me lose weight.? So, I had to accept the reality that most ?plans? aren?t doable for the long haul. ?This meant getting rid of my ?all or nothing? weight loss mindset.? Instead of feeling guilty for slipping up, I started keeping a mental note of what I ate and tried to match my food intake with equal calorie burn.? For example, if I killed a burger and fries at lunch, that was cool.? It just meant I?d have a small side salad for dinner followed by an extra 30 minutes of cardio.?Simple, right?? Not quite.
Despite having this revelation and starting to feel more balanced, I wasn?t losing as much weight as I wanted.? What was the problem?? After downing a bag of trail mix one afternoon, I realized Slip-up #2: I ate too much.? Simply put, it goes like this:
At a wedding in 2009 ?mean muggin? ? I was thick but still cute right?
The fact that I ate too much was the most difficult truth for me to accept because I actually ate healthy food!? The problem was that I simply ate too much of it.? So, it was really hard to burn more calories than I consumed, which is the only way to legitimately lose weight.? You?ve heard it before, ?eat until you?re satisfied, not until you?re full.?? Well, it?s true.? I had to accept that portion control is just as, if not more, important than food choice.
On that same note, I discovered Slip-up #3: I overestimated my calorie burn.? Since I work out regularly, I always figured I deserved a diet ?buffer.? But, turns out our bodies don?t blast as many calories as we think.??? Calorie counters and heart rate monitors often over count calorie burn.? This is because several factors like hydration, stress, diet, genetics and room temperature aren?t considered.? The bottom line is this: The harder you work the more calories you burn. ?So, I started using the Talk Test to quickly and effectively measure my Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE)?and indirectly measure my calorie burn. ??If I?m breathing really heavy (like ?sucking air?) I know I?m torching calories because I?ve reached my anaerobic training zone.? Now when I work out, I try reaching and staying in this calorie blasting zone to maximize the burn!
Hosting a house party in 2010 ? gettin? my GRUB ON
I?m not going to lie, after weeks of trying to eat less and move more, I was having some serious hunger pangs!? Luckily, I found that simply drinking a glass of water did wonders for my cravings.? Check this, most of the time we think we are ?hungry? we are actually ?thirsty? due to dehydration.? Also dehydration makes us feel lethargic and we crave sugar and other simple carbs that make us fat.?So there you have it, Slip-up #4: I didn?t drink enough water.?
Now, I was on a roll! After a few months proactively addressing my weight control ?slip-ups,? I was feeling good, slim, and energetic.? So one day I decided to weigh myself.? Up 6 pounds?? WHAT?!? How did that happen?? Then I thought to myself, hmmmm? I had indulged in ice cream the night before and a little bacon at breakfast? and pizza on Friday night.
Ramped up my workout intensity w/ ?hour-long Turbo Kick classes
That?s when I clearly saw Slip up #5: I needed a reality check.? After that random weigh-in, I started weighing myself every morning (yes EVERY day) and have done so for over 1 year now!? This habit is controversial because body weight fluctuates for a variety of reasons (mostly due to hydration levels).? However, the fact of the matter is that the numbers on the scale are your body weight at that time.? THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE (or at least it did for me)!? Being mindful of my weight on a daily basis makes me think more deeply about what I am consuming, my digestion patterns, hydration levels, sweat output and calorie intake/burn.? While my daily weigh-ins help keep my weight in line, my ?heavy days? can be very discouraging.? I have to constantly remind myself to keep the big picture in mind ? my fitness, health and happiness, not just the numbers on the scale.
Me now at 153 pounds Feeling ?STELLAR?
My slip-ups have taught me that weight management isn?t about the latest and greatest diet or workout plan; it?s about continuing on a lifelong journey of developing and strengthening healthy habits.? There will always be good days and bad days, but success comes from balance.? Now, at 27 years old, my weight ranges from 150-155 pounds. ?I?ve maintained this weight range for over a year without the use of any expensive weight loss plans or diet pills.? I feel strong.? I feel healthy.? I feel authentic.? Most importantly, I ALWAYS rock my short shorts, high heels and lots of SWAG!
?

Why is integration of disabled people at school still an objective to be achieved in Italy, where there is one of the most advanced laws in Europe on disabilities?
This flop is even more surprising if you think that the number of pupils with disabilities in Italian schools has increased by 56 percent over the last 10 years. In the school year 2011/2012, they were about 200 thousand, mainly ? about 75 thousand ? in primary schools and the others divided between nursery, middle and high schools.
Yet, in practice, something seems to have gone wrong. After that special institutes closed down a few decades ago, no complete alternative has been provided and attempts to integrate handicapped people into schools, especially in the most serious cases, has often failed.
For three reasons, at least:
Firstly, shortage and poor specialization of the so-called special education teachers. Often, this particular category of students is followed by teachers who lack specific education.
Secondly, it is important not to underestimate the fact that most schools in Italy are not equipped with technological services and devices for this category of students. Not to mention that today, architectural barriers are still the grim reality in 1 out of 10 schools.
Thirdly, and finally, as the OECD recently reported, in Italy, the amount of total investments in education is the lowest across Europe: 4.7 percent of the GDP against a EU average of 5.8. These figures, however, must be read cum grano salis since the feeling on this front is that the real problem does not reside in the quantity of resources particularly destined to young disabled people, as in their quality: that is, how they are used.
The truth is that handicapped students integration requires individual educational programs and a connection between disabled pupils, classmates and teachers, as well as between school and family that only a special education teacher and the support given by classmates can guarantee. These latter, among other things, will be able to take advantage from the relationship with disabled mates, starting from a higher awareness of diversity.

Corruption and Darkness eats all until the only thing left are blank stares and empty shadows. Will you follow destiny and unravel the darkness before it consumes you also?

Forum for completely Out of Character (OOC) discussion, based around whatever is happening In Character (IC). Discuss plans, storylines, and events; Recruit for your roleplaying game, or find a GM for your playergroup.Hmmm :/ Hope this is a good story that makes lots of people join...
Please reserve, ask questions, talk, chat, discuss ideas, here.
If you wanna add onto the story or make sub-plots you can ask me if it involves me if not GO AHEAD I LOVEEEEE creativity and romance and adventure.
SOOO... YAY >///<
So, id like to reserve a Guardian but i don't really know what they are.
I do this to encourage creativity and not put shackles on the person creating the character... ANYWAY You can make your guardian whatever you want really so long as you know that, they were chosen by the Creator to guard the chosen ones and make sure they grew up properly on Earth until it was time for them to return to Nevermore and become in a sense it's champions.
Mhmm, yeah, I definitely have to join this! Aah, it sounds like so much fun! May I reserve a Guardian? Just so you know, I'll probably make a male 'cause I've already got an idea of what I want him to be! I've got an exam tomorrow afternoon, but after that I'll sit down and work on him :D
Alright I reserved for the both of you ^w^
This roleplay really caught my interest! Uhm, save me a guardian position? I have to run some errands but I will fill out a sheet when I get back. X3
I would probably like to reserve a Guardian, but I can play multiple characters should this rp not recieve enough characters.
"Serve the Emperor today. Tomorrow you may be dead." - Thought for the day
wow the guardians are popular xD and alright thank you ^-^
I could play a chosen if you would rather have a chosen
may i reserve a guardian please? >w<
?No one that opposes me is allowed to look down on me. Know your place."
-Akashi Seijuuro
I suppose I could try running a chosen and my chosen's guardian... I could also run someone else's guardian instead I suppose...
And all the guardian spots are filled WOOHOO~
Also, I have a question if that's quite alright. Are the Chosens living on Earth and have they for the past 16 years or did they sleep for 16 years? Will they be in Earth or Nevermore at the very beginning of the roleplay?
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence of trying.
The guardians are meant to be older than the chosen, right?
anddd of course you may Layla... As or your questions no they will not have been asleep they would have been raised as normal kids on Earth but they might have had certain abilities or something that other people did not and I'm not sure yet where Il begin the RP maybe on Earth and then have them quickly go to Nevermore...
Gotcha. Thanks for letting me know. X3 I need to decide whether or not my character woll be male or female. :x I don't want to screw up the ratio. Unless I decide that my guardian can change genders. Haha.
xD lol well I'm sure I'm doing a Female chosen :P I suck at RP-ing guys im just so... so awkward >///<
I guess I'll call a male Chosen. Question: Since the "shadow creatures" are the bad guys, I'm guesing that Shadow Manipulation can't be my power...
Well that could depend o.O I mean the creatures in a sense are made of chaos, corruption, and tainted magic... So if your talking about like actually darkness shadow... it could work maybe just PM me and like specify what you mean and I'l answer in more detail ANYWAY... TO MAKE ANOTHER RESERVE!!!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate has done little to attract voters to the Republican ticket and more think he is not qualified to be president than believe he is ready for the White House, a Reuters/Ipsos poll said on Monday.
Fewer than a third of registered voters, 29 percent, said the selection of Ryan made them feel more favorable toward Romney. But with 27 percent in the online poll saying it made them feel less favorable, Ryan's place on the ticket may have little effect on the November 6 election.
The results were largely split along party lines - with 46 percent of Democrats saying Ryan's choice made them less favorable, compared with 8 percent who said the opposite. And 56 percent of Republicans felt more favorable, versus 6 percent.
But Ryan has not swayed many political independents, the voters expected to play a decisive role in the election. Eighteen percent felt more favorable and 13 percent less so.
"Overall, he doesn't really appear to be impacting the top of the ticket much," Ipsos pollster Julia Clark said. "He's still a bit of an unknown entity."
The survey was conducted September 20-24, a time when some Republican commentators have been pressing Romney's campaign to do more to promote Ryan, who is seen as a proponent of big fiscal ideas, like a plan to overhaul the government Medicare health insurance program for retirees.
The Washington Post reported on Monday that some conservatives think Romney's campaign has been too cautious by avoiding Ryan's big ideas and hoping that President Barack Obama will defeat himself.
Polls have given Obama a steady nationwide lead over Romney since the Democratic convention early this month. The Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll on Monday had Obama leading by 49 percent to 43 percent for Romney among likely voters.
"Obama's now been healthfully in the lead since the convention. If he can sustain this for another 45 days, it's done," Clark said.
BIDEN BENEFITS FROM INCUMBENCY
Forty-four percent of registered voters think Ryan is not qualified to be president, compared with 29 percent who feel he would be ready to step into Romney's shoes if necessary, the survey found.
A larger percentage thought that Joe Biden, 69, the incumbent Democratic vice president, is ready for the Oval Office. Biden led 43 percent to 36 percent, thanks to huge support among Democrats.
But more Democrats had faith in Biden, a former Delaware senator who is well-known as the incumbent, than Republicans had in the 42-year-old Ryan, a Wisconsin congressman who is chairman of the House of Representatives Budget Committee.
Among Democrats, 74 percent said Biden was more qualified, versus 8 percent who chose Ryan and 18 percent who did not know. Seventy percent of Republicans favored Ryan, compared with 13 percent for Biden and 18 percent who did not know.
The numbers were even among independents, with 30 percent each for Biden and Ryan, and 40 percent who did not know.
More registered voters have heard of Ryan than before Romney selected him, but he still falls short in national name recognition. Only 56 percent of registered voters said they were familiar with Ryan, versus mid-August's 35 percent.
Their opinions of him are split evenly. Forty-nine percent view Ryan favorably, versus 51 percent who don't, divided largely along party lines. Among independents, 48 percent view him favorably and 52 percent don't, the poll showed.
The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of 3.1 percentage points for the 1,313 registered voters surveyed and 3.5 percentage points for the 1,095 likely voters.

Just moments ago, California Governor Jerry Brown signed into effect SB1298, effectively paving the way for driverless cars in California. For a state that relies more heavily on cars than any other, this is hugely significant when it comes to traffic and road congestion.
"Today we're looking at science-fiction becoming tomorrow's reality," said the governor. And tomorrow isn't that far off. According to Google's Sergey Brin, "You can count on one hand the number of years until ordinary people can experience this." More and more Google employees will be beta-testing it starting this year, and when you hear the potential advantages, you'll start to wish you worked there.
Brin envisions the driverless-cars serving people who couldn't drive under normal circumstances. "There are many, many people who are underserved by our transportation today," he said. "The blind... some people are too young, some people are too old, sometimes we're too intoxicated." But beyond opening the doors to people who might otherwise be cut off from transportation, it's something the masses may quickly get spoiled by.
Another area where Brin hopes the driverless-car will improve society is traffic:
"Why does the congestion happen to begin with? The fact is that on a normally operating highway, cars take up a very small fraction of the space. Mostly it's just air between you the the car in front of you, to the sides of you, and so forth. Self-driving cars can actually 'chain together' and use the highways more efficiently, potentially eradicating congestion."
It's hard not to have a visceral, gut-clinching reaction when you picture a string of cars speeding down the highway like cyclists drafting each other in a race. But then driverless cars aren't designed to speed, and according to Brin, "Driverless cars don't run red lights." That's a bold statement, but there would be a lot fewer auto fatalities if it's true. Google's engineering team is busy trying to account for every anomaly.
The cars could make us more productive, allowing us to get some work done while we're stuck in traffic. They could also potentially solve a lot of our parking problems. A driverless car could theoretically drop you off and then go find a efficient place to park itself. Or, if you didn't need have to own your car, it could drop you off, then be used by someone else, eliminating the need for parking all together.
By Brin's admission, the list of technical details yet to be solved make for a very long list, but Google's driverless cars have already traveled over 300,000 of miles without incident. With the passage of SB1298 today, the door is now open to increasing the amount of road-testing by a significant margin, which will make these cars available to everyone much sooner. We can't wait for that day. [Google]
